This blog contains photos, mainly taken during diving around Perth and other parts of Western Australia, with occasional other locations thrown in. This header photograph was taken during a trip to Sipadan Island off the coast of Borneo. It shows a Grey Reef Shark disappearing into the gloom, which drops to around 600 metres deep - I was at around 30 metres!!

Masked Stingaree
A fairly uncommon sight in these waters! The shot was taken last Friday on a dive NW of Mindarie Marina in the northern suburbs of Perth. The Masked Stingaree is quite attractive but has a venomous spine on the tail. This one was around 50cm across.
So it has a barb in its tail - so the smiling assassin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strange and wonderful creature, sounds like you were very lucky to spot it!
ReplyDeleteThis creeps me out a little... not sure why.
